Business Day Live Online: The call by the National Energy Regulator of SA (Nersa) for stakeholders to comment on a consultation paper on the review of its inclining block tariff (IBT) system appears to be somewhat premature. IBTs work on the principle that consumers pay a higher tariff the more electricity they use.
Last week, Nersa invited written comments on the review of the IBTs published in October last year, saying the review was necessary as Eskom and some municipalities were struggling to implement the system. Under the current tariff guidelines, domestic customers should get the first 350kWh a month at relatively low tariffs. Read more…
